I recently came into possession of my microphone. While I understand the reason I cannot use it, it does concern me. How did you--or someone who presumably works with you--manage to disable its capabilities?

I am sure you understand my concern, as well as my curiosity. It is not exactly a typical microphone; something or someone has tampered with sophisticated military technology.

It is, indeed, sophisticated military technology; but that is why research exists, as well as the pursuit of knowledge.

It isn't irreparable, if that is something you're also concerned about.

You are extremely lucky you will likely never meet those who create the microphones.

Are you truly attempting to research it? I would advise against it. I am not certain how much you know of my world and its history, but it is not something to trifle with.

Your government, correct? I'll be honest with you - I don't agree with their ambitions, though I acknowledge that my methods aren't any better than theirs. That being said, they are quite brilliant people, so I suppose there's pros and cons to not being able to meet them...

And no, I am not trying to research it. We simply needed a way to make sure your microphone could not activate while you are here, just like how most of your other peers are unable to use their abilities.

I would certainly try to look into it if I had time, but it's in your hands now, so there won't be an opportunity to do so.

I can no longer claim that I am a saint, you're right about that. Unfortunately, sometimes, sacrifices must be made, even when it comes at the expense of one's own humanity – I've come to accept that a long time ago. That is why it doesn't bother me all that much when people come to me with all of their ire.

As for your question, technically, I suppose not. But I'm not interested in what they have to offer at the moment, so I have no plans to bring them here. I make no promises, but this is me being honest. If you're worried about your friends, don't be.

I am well-versed in the art of sacrifice. Both you and I have goals we would like to accomplish at any cost. I cannot say I will ever be fond of you, but I do admire the grace with which you accept our ire.

Not interested in what they have to offer, hm...? Out of everyone, I was the one plucked from Tokyo. It has been on my mind, you know. I have lost countless hours of sleep as I lay in bed at night, wondering why you chose me.

As for my friends... I cannot think of a single moment in which I was not worried. Your reassurance is appreciated, but I am sure you understand.

I'm glad we are on the same page in that regard, then. What you think of me is your business and not something I'd care to change, even if I could, because I have my reasons.

If you're asking why I chose you, it's because you are far more closed off than most of your friends back at home. Shrouded in mystery and intrigue with a desire to one day be vulnerable around the people you want to trust... And who better than Bennett to draw that out of you? Someone who doesn't know you or what you've been through, someone so unspeakably earnest. It is quite an interesting matchup, that's for sure.

I suppose that makes sense. Had you brought someone like Yamada Ichiro or Dice here, I imagine they would take this all in stride. Had I been in your position, I imagine I would choose someone like myself. And as for Bennett... I won't deny that it has been quite the match.

For curiosity's sake, if I may ask, were there any others you considered bringing here?

From your world? Doppo Kannonzaka, perhaps. Maybe even Samatoki Aohitsugi, but admittedly, he'd be too much of a nightmare.

On the contrary, I'd quite like to see Mr. Hardcore here. He would make things interesting, you know. And isn't it a good thing to add in an unpredictable variable? A wildcard, so to speak.
